The changing leaves, the crisp air, and the gatherings around family tables all seem to whisper the same reminder: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever” (Psalm 107:1).

John Wesley often spoke of the Christian life as one marked by grace upon grace—prevenient, justifying, and sanctifying. Each movement of God’s grace invites us into deeper gratitude. Gratitude, after all, is not merely a polite response to blessings received, but a way of living that recognizes God’s presence in every season.

In a world that often rushes past wonder, the people called Methodists have long sought to live with hearts strangely warmed—hearts alive to God’s goodness and alert to the needs of our neighbors. This November, I invite you to cultivate what Wesley called practical divinity: faith that takes root in daily acts of thanksgiving, mercy, and holiness.

Let us be a thankful people:

Thankful for the grace that has gone before us, drawing us ever closer to Christ.

Thankful for the justifying love that assures us we are forgiven and free.

Thankful for the sanctifying Spirit that continues to perfect us in love.

As we prepare for the close of another year, may we do so with renewed devotion and a deep sense of gratitude. May our lives—individually and as a church—shine with the warmth of God’s love in a world that desperately needs light.
With love and thanksgiving in Christ,

Pastor Steven Bales

Whether through worship, prayer, or sharing a meal together, we are witnessing a harvest of grace that only God can bring.
As we look ahead, let’s continue planting seeds of hope in our neighborhood and community. Our mission remains the same—to love God, love people, and be a light right here on Ritter Avenue. Even small acts of faithfulness make a difference when they’re done in Jesus’ name.

Let’s keep walking together with hearts full of gratitude, trusting that God will continue to grow what we have planted. Isn’t it amazing how Paul, in the midst of hardship, could still write, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4)?
That kind of joy — not based on circumstances, but rooted in Christ — is something I pray we each experience more deeply this season.

September often marks a time of transition. Summer winds down, routines pick up, and for many, there’s a renewed sense of structure and purpose. In Philippians, Paul speaks of pressing on “toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:14). As we re-engage with church life, school, work, and community, let us also press on in our faith with that same focus and dedication.
Here are a few highlights from Philippians I encourage you to meditate on this month:

Philippians 1:6 – “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” God is not finished with you. Whatever season you’re in, He is still working.

Philippians 2:3-4 – “Do nothing out of selfish ambition… but in humility value others above yourselves.” Let us strive for unity, love, and humility in all we do — in our homes, our church, and our community.

Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything… and the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds.” In times of uncertainty, let’s bring our concerns to the Lord in prayer and trust in His peace.

May the joy of the Lord be your strength this month. And may we, like Paul, learn to be content in all circumstances, knowing that “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” (Phil. 4:13).
With love and thanksgiving,

Pastor Steven Bales

Summer is beginning to wane, and many of us are savoring the final days of rest before the busyness of fall returns—school starting up, routines reestablished, and ministry activities ramping up again.

In this transition time, I encourage each of you to pause and reflect: How has God met you this summer? What moments of rest, joy, or challenge have deepened your faith? Sometimes it's in the quieter months, when the pace slows, that we hear God most clearly.
At the same time, let us begin looking forward. August reminds us that a new season of ministry is upon us. There are new opportunities to serve, new people to welcome, and new lessons to learn. Whether you are returning from vacation or continuing through a busy season of work, I invite you to re-engage with the life of our church.

Please mark your calendars for our all Church pitch-in after the morning worship on August 17th. These are moments where we gather not just to worship, but to grow together in love, faith, and purpose. Don’t forget to bring a dish or dessert to share with everyone!
Let us continue to be a people who do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, we will reap a harvest—if we do not give up.

May the Lord bless you and keep you in these final summer weeks. It’s a time when we pause to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation and the blessings of our freedom.

But amid the warmth and activity, let us not forget the deeper freedom we have in Christ. Galatians 5:1 reminds us, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” In a world that is often filled with stress, division, and uncertainty, Jesus offers us true peace, real purpose, and lasting hope.

This month, I encourage you to make space for what matters most. Spend time in prayer, dive into God’s Word, and don’t let your faith take a vacation just because your schedule changes. Stay connected — to God and your church family. Whether you're traveling, resting at home, or joining us for worship each week, you are a vital part of our community.
Let’s also remember those who need a helping hand this summer. Reach out to someone who may feel isolated. Invite a neighbor to church. Volunteer at one of our events. Small acts of kindness can be powerful reflections of God’s love.

I also want to remind you that Superintendent Jen Finley will be delivering the message on July 6th. Please come support and meet our Superintendent.

I am grateful for each of you and the ways you reflect Christ in our church and beyond. May this month be filled with meaningful moments and a renewed sense of God’s presence in your life.

In Christ’s love,
Pastor Steven

John Wesley often spoke of “going on to perfection,” a continual journey of becoming more like Christ in love, thought, and action. June provides space for that kind of reflection and renewal as we engage in both rest and relationship.

This month, we pause to honor Father’s Day, a time to celebrate and give thanks for the fathers and father figures in our lives. In the Wesleyan tradition, we uphold the vital role of family in nurturing holiness. Fathers are often the first spiritual teachers in the home—shaping faith through example, prayer, and presence. As Wesley himself experienced the deep influence of his own parents, especially Susanna Wesley, we recognize the importance of spiritual leadership in the family.

To all the men in our church who reflect the love of our Heavenly Father through their care, guidance, and faithfulness—thank you. Whether you are a biological father, a spiritual father, or someone who mentors and uplifts others—you are making an eternal difference. Your daily faithfulness, even in the small things, is a testimony of God’s grace at work.
This is also a season of transitions—school years ending, plans being made, and opportunities arising to step back and listen for God’s voice. I encourage each of you to remain rooted in the means of grace: prayer, Scripture, worship, and acts of mercy. Summer may shift our schedules, but God’s presence is constant. Let’s stay faithful in the journey of sanctification, seeking not only to believe but to become more fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ.

As always, let us also look outward: who in your life needs encouragement, hope, or simply to know they are seen and loved? The Wesleyan way calls us to active love—holiness of heart and life.

May this month bring you renewal, joy, and a deeper sense of God’s calling on your life.

In His matchless grace,

Pastor Steven Bales

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” God is always at work, bringing new life and fresh purpose—even in places we least expect.

May is a season of growth, not only in nature but also in our spiritual lives. As a Free Methodist community, we are called to live out a holiness that transforms—not only our own hearts but the world around us. Holiness, for us, is not about separation from the world, but deeper engagement with it—reflecting Christ’s love, justice, and compassion in everything we do.

This month, I want to challenge each of us to intentionally practice presence. Whether through our small groups, acts of service, or simply showing up for someone in need, let’s be present in ways that reflect the love of Jesus. We’ll also be continuing our teaching series: “After Easter: A Journey to Pentecost” exploring how we can deepen our faith and embrace our calling.

Let’s not forget the gift of community. With Mother’s Day, graduations, and transitions approaching, there are many opportunities to support and celebrate one another. Please keep in prayer those in our congregation who are experiencing change, grief, or uncertainty. Also keep our Wabash conference in your prayers as we meet together at the end of May for our Annual Conference. Let’s be a church that walks with people—not just in the good times, but through the hard ones too.

As always, I’m grateful for each of you. This season offers us the opportunity to draw closer to God, to renew our commitment to Him, and to grow in our faith.
Lent is a time of preparation as we look forward to the celebration of Easter—the resurrection of our Lord. It reminds us that through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we have been given new life. During this season, we are called to reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and to respond with gratitude, humility, and a renewed desire to follow Him.

As we walk this Lenten journey together, I encourage you to consider how God is calling you to grow during this time. Whether through prayer, fasting, acts of service, or reading His Word, let us commit ourselves to seeking His will and living out His love in tangible ways.
This month also brings with it the promise of spring—new beginnings, fresh starts, and the renewal of life all around us. Just as the earth begins to bloom and grow, may we, too, experience spiritual growth and renewal as we seek God’s presence in our lives.
Please join us for the various opportunities to worship, pray, and serve during this season. Our Lenten services, Bible studies, and community outreach programs will provide spaces for us to grow together in faith and fellowship.

Thank you for being a part of this wonderful church family. I am deeply grateful for each of you and the ways in which we support and encourage one another in our walk with Christ. This month, as we celebrate Valentine’s Day and reflect on the theme of love, it’s a perfect opportunity for us to pause and remember the depth of God’s love, which is the foundation of our faith and our life together as a church.

In 1 John 4:19, we read, “We love because he first loved us.” This love is not just something to admire from a distance; it’s something to live out every day. It calls us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This isn’t always easy, but it’s the heart of the Gospel and the call of every believer.

This month, I encourage you to consider how you can intentionally live out God’s love in your daily life. Whether it’s through a simple act of kindness, a word of encouragement, or a moment of prayer for someone in need, let’s commit to showing Christ’s love in both big and small ways.

Additionally, if you need prayer, support, or simply someone to talk to, please don’t hesitate to reach out. As we step into 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on God's faithfulness and share my excitement for the year ahead. The dawn of a new year brings fresh opportunities for growth, renewal, and deepening our relationship with the Lord. We are entering a season of anticipation, trusting that God will continue to lead, guide, and bless us as His people.
As I think about the year ahead, I am reminded of the words from Philippians 3:13-14:
"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." (NIV)
This passage encourages us to leave behind past struggles and victories and to focus on the future that God has set before us. We have much to look forward to as we pursue His calling together in 2025.
Looking Back
As we reflect on the past year, we can praise God for His incredible faithfulness. We saw lives transformed, prayers answered, and ministries flourish. From our Sunday services to our community outreach events, God has been at work in powerful ways. Let’s celebrate all that He has done in and through us, and be grateful for the opportunities we've had to serve and grow as a congregation.
Looking Ahead
In 2025, we are excited to continue our journey of discipleship, outreach, and community. Our vision for this year is to be a church that not only grows in faith but also impacts the lives of those around us. We will focus on strengthening our relationships with each other and reaching out to our neighbors with the love of Christ.
We will also be rolling out some new initiatives that we hope will engage every member of our church family:

Outreach & Missions: We will continue our local and global mission efforts, seeking to be the hands and feet of Jesus wherever we are called.

Discipleship & Leadership Development: We want to equip more leaders to serve and lead within the church, and we’ll be offering new opportunities for growth and service.

Prayer Focus: We will dedicate time throughout the year to focus on prayer and fasting as we seek God’s will for our lives and church.

As we move forward together, I ask that you prayerfully consider how God might be calling you to get involved and contribute your time, talents, and treasures. There is a place for everyone to serve and make a difference.

A Word of Encouragement
January often brings new resolutions and goals. While it's good to set personal intentions, remember that our ultimate goal is to grow in Christ and make His name known. May this year be marked by a deeper intimacy with God, greater service to one another, and a renewed commitment to the mission He has given us.
Let us begin this year with hearts full of gratitude for what God has done and anticipation for what He will continue to do in us and through us. I am grateful for each of you, and I look forward to all that we will experience together in 2025.
May God bless you and your family with His peace, joy, and abundant grace in this new year.
In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Steven Bales

As we celebrate His birth, we also celebrate the gift of community — the body of Christ that we share together. This church has been a source of strength, encouragement, and love for me and for so many others. In this season of giving, I am so thankful for each of you — for the ways you serve, love, and support one another, and for the witness we collectively give to the world of Christ’s love.
Over the past year, we have witnessed God's faithfulness in countless ways. From the small, everyday moments of grace to the larger steps of growth and outreach in our community, it is clear that God has been at work among us. As we look forward to the new year, I pray that we continue to be faithful in sharing His love with those around us, growing deeper in our faith, and becoming more like Christ in all that we do.
May this Christmas be a time of renewal for your spirit, a reminder of God's profound love, and a chance to reflect on the ways He has worked in your life. Summer is slowly fading, and the vibrant colors of autumn are beginning to emerge. This transition offers a wonderful chance to realign our hearts and minds with the rhythms of God’s creation.
September is often a time of new beginnings. Schools are back in session, and many of us return from summer vacations with renewed energy and a sense of purpose. This is also a perfect moment for us to recommit ourselves to our spiritual practices and community life.
In the coming weeks, we will embark on a series of sermons focused on “Discipleship”. Our goal is to explore how we can more deeply integrate our faith into our daily routines, relationships, decisions and to live our lives like Jesus. I encourage you to engage with these messages and to reflect on how God is calling you to live out your faith in new and meaningful ways.
Our church’s ministries are also gearing up for an exciting season of service and outreach. It is a time when nature is in full bloom, and we are called to reflect on the growth that is happening in our own lives and within our church community.
Just as the earth goes through cycles of renewal, so do we as individuals and as a church. It is a time for us to recharge our spirits, deepen our faith, and prepare ourselves for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
I encourage each of you to take some time this month for personal reflection and prayer. Seek God’s guidance in your life, and ask Him to renew your spirit and strengthen your resolve. Let us also remember to support one another in our spiritual journeys. Our community thrives when we lift each other up and share in each other's joys and struggles.
We are also looking forward to some exciting events and initiatives in the coming months. Our Church Cook-out at Pando Aspen Grove Apartments, which is just a few blocks east of the church, is scheduled on August 17th from 11-1pm.I am eager to see how God will use our collective efforts to make a difference in our community. Additionally, our Ladies Bible study group will be resuming their sessions on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month and I encourage you to get involved and grow in your understanding of God's Word. Get in touch with Karen Young for more information.
Let us continue to be a beacon of hope and love in our community, reflecting the light of Christ in all that we do. May this August be a time of spiritual rejuvenation and preparation for the blessings and opportunities that God has in store for us.
Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to our church.
